Letter written from Bank of Charleston, re impact of financial difficulties of Philadelphia firm of Pearse & Elbert, reporting the firm's acceptance of new partnership with J.C. Harrison, and lists additional partners with failed notes based in Charleston and Hamburg, S.C., and in Savannah, Ga. Includes enclosed copy of letter, 15 May 1846, of Pearse & Elbert (Philadelphia, Pa.) to L.B. Trevor in which the firm requests additional time for repayment of debts; Pearse & Elbert requests reports that the firm was swindled out of $41,000 by New York firm of Tyler & Mapes as part of a fraudulent property conveyance.
